Carrie Tipton, Adoption & Estate Planning Attorney, Northern Virginia

The Arbor Law Firm is operated by Carrie A. Tipton, a lawyer practicing in Northern Virginia since 1997. Ms. Tipton is a 1994 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served as the Executive Editor of The Virginia Environmental Law Journal. After serving in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Congo, Ms. Tipton returned to Virginia and began the practice of law in 1997, serving as a public defender for juvenile defendants prior to switching to private practice in 2002. Ms. Tipton practiced in a law firm in Fairfax, focusing her efforts on estate planning and development of wills and trusts for families, creation of Special Needs Trusts, and adoption legal services, prior to establishing Arbor in March of 2008.

As a working mother in Northern Virginia, Ms. Tipton understands the many demands on families in the region. Arbor is designed to work with busy parents and professionals throughout Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties, ensuring that wills, trusts, and other planning strategies are put in place to protect assets for children and other beneficiaries, and to provide necessary legal services for adoptive families in a timely and convenient manner. Arbor’s flexible, mobile services allow families and individuals in Virginia to obtain quality estate planning and adoption legal services, without requiring clients to take time off from work or childcare duties. Arbor additionally can combine estate planning and adoption services, to incorporate new family members into a comprehensive estate plan.

Ms. Tipton is a 1991 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Kentucky, with degrees in Political Science and English. She has volunteered at Martha’s Table in Washington, D.C., at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, and is a rabid supporter of public radio. She has given talks for area parent groups on the topics of estate planning for families and selection of guardians, and has been a featured speaker for “Moms Do Lunch,” sponsored by
Washington Family Magazine, WUSA Channel News 9, and 97.1 WASH-FM.

The Arbor Law Firm’s green practices have been recognized in Virginia Lawyers Weekly, and Ms. Tipton authored “Green Tips for Your Home Office” as published in Washington Parent magazine in 2009.
